KPBS established the first public broadcasting vehicle donation programme in 2003 in collaboration with CARS (Charitable Adult Rides & Services). CARS has a formula for getting the possible money out of each donation, both for KPBS and our donors’ tax benefits. Donations of vehicles can be made by KPBS listeners and viewers from almost anywhere in the United States, thanks to CARS’ well-established network of vendors and auction yards across the country. Donated vehicles can be picked up from anywhere in the country.
Donating Your Vehicle to KPBS, San Diego’s Public Radio and Television Station:
To donate a car, please call 877-KPBS-CAR (877-572-7227) or fill out the form at kpbs.org/give/car-donation. Our Vehicle Donor Support Team members will contact you to finalise the donation and arrange a convenient time for pickup.
Schedule a Free Pickup: We will come to your location in the United States and take your vehicle donation. Once the vehicle donation record is complete, we can usually schedule the pickup during the initial call.
Benefit from a Tax Deduction Receipt Our vehicle donation programme takes care of everything, including the paperwork. The tow truck driver will provide you with a receipt for your initial donation when your vehicle is picked up.
A tax receipt will be included in the thank-you letter that will be mailed out within 30 days of the sale of the car if the sale price is $500 or less. Within 30 days of the deal, we will mail you an IRS Form 1098-C detailing the total amount we received from your vehicle donation (if it was for more than $500) and your tax identification number (if you provided one).
